Barry is offering two new storytelling programs to complement the Summer Reading Program theme, "Unearth a Story," and will be touring them to libraries in Georgia and beyond (schedule below the descriptions)::
Hot Diggity Doug (ages 3-10)
For our young book lovers and emerging readers - join me and my dapper dog Doug as weunearth stories, poems and songs from some treasured books and authors, all about digging and dinos. The program will include retellings and reenactments of Julia Donaldson’s One Mole Digging a Hole, Jane Yolen’s How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Jack Prelutsky’s “I’m Digging a Hole in the Ceiling,” Old MacDino Had a Farm, by Becky Davies, and more. There's plenty of song, movement, puppetry, audience participation, and plain-old, down-to-earth, doggedly delectable playfulness!
Dinosaur Girl and Fossil Boy: Real-World Stories of Digging and Daring (ages 6-14)
Let’s explore what’s been found underground through stories of folks who’ve dug in the dirt and the cool stuff they’ve unearthed. The program includes interactive retellings of delightful books and fascinating stories: Faith McNulty’s How to Dig a Hole to the Other Side of the World; tales of two paleontological pioneers, Mary Anning and Barnum Brown; Shel Silverstein’s poem “Prehistoric,” a meditation on modern saurians and their ancient ancestors; and an imaginary tour of some of the world’s greatest archaeological wonders, from Mesa Verde to Angkor Wat. There are song, costumes, striking visuals, and plenty of participation and engagement.
